VCD stands for Video CD or View CD. VideoCD is a standard developed in early 1993 by Sony, Philips, Matsushita, and JVC that allows regular CD to contain 74 minutes of video and audio. Both, video and audio, are encoded in MPEG-1 format and stored on the CD in a specific format (MPEG-PS container). Resolution is 352x240 under NTSC and 352x288 under PAL/SECAM and Aspect Ratio is 4:3. The VCD format has no region coding, so discs can be played on any compatible equipment worldwide.
